And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. (Rom 5:3-6)

Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel. (Psalm 69:6)

Sermon Notes

Readers of the blog,  From time to time I refer our church to the blog for rough notes on the sermon from SUnday.  These notes are in that veign.  They provide enough of an outline for going back over the message for personal study like one of the Berean brethern.  These outlines cover the past two Sundays where we have been coving Fighting the Good Fight of Faith, and Having Fought the Good Fight of Faith. The audio of these sermons can be found at holidayshoresbaptist.org

How Do We Prepare to Die?
2 Timothy 4:1-11

Last week 1 Timothy 6:11-20
What are the costs to count and the enemies we face.
Temptation, Old Nature and Habits, Opposition general to life, Peer pressure and persuasion, Persecution, Lack of Wisdom, Lack of Knowledge, Lack of Armor, Lack of faith

He gave 4 phrases that mattered in his fight of faith.
Flee and pursue (11)
Take hold (12)
I charge you (13)
To Him be honor (16)
These are basic to fighting the good fight of faith.  To daily denying self, taking up the cross, and following Him.

What is faith:  The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

It is a living by confident passionate expectation that the word of God is true and is demonstrated therefore in thoughts, beliefs, nature, actions, and words.

Today we look at a life that did just what we see.  He practiced what he preached.
He speaks on a loving way to Timothy, encouraging him to carry on the fight, for it is a worthy pursuit.
He does not hind the troubles ahead.
The basis of his faith is found in a previous verse, 2 Timothy 3:16-17

To men here Paul and Demas

Paul                                                                Demas

Walked with God                                          Walked too

Participated in many activities                   Participated in many activities

Wrote letters                                                  Was with Paul in letters

Started churches                                         Started churches

Was in prison                                               Was in prison

Loved the Kingdom                                     Loved the world

Stayed the course                                        Departed

Demas deserted, but Mark found favor again.  IF you are hearing this, come back to the faith.

Paul
Fought the good fight of faith
           Finished the race
           Kept the faith.
